Teams @ Work

Here is the real ONS! Busy? Damn busy? Yes I am crazy busy but being busy is a lame excuse of not fulfilling my ONS challenge! but i'm writing passionately about topic...

Have you come across a situation whereby "you feel" you are "the only one" doing everything? You have team members (be it juniors or seniors) but they are not supportive enough or not delivering work up to your expectation… you tired of running alone, stressed out, frustrated and all whiny. So, why not we do something about this?

"Having working with your team mates, you should know of his/her strengths and weaknesses. Anticipate those weaknesses that will cause issue and eliminate them before they can cause any damage to your project"... and so was the advices from my Guru. It work cause, I'm practicing it by weighing what he does best...and hence I delegated the "ego boosting" kinda work stuff so I can concentrate on other issues.
Delegate.. always delegate... right Guru? Many fail to do / learn to do that. I revisited my past experiences as a coordinator for a beauty pageant when I just started, you will fret over the overloaded paper works, managing sponsors, 100 over contestants from all over the world (and a handful who can only speak alien language) and etc. etc. You wouldn't delegate because you couldn't trust others work quality, you rather do it yourself to avoid double work, you have no time to teach due to time constraints... well all these negative thoughts gotta go... You have let go, you gotta learn to trust people. Even beauty contestants need to learn to work in a team and e.g communicating with those with language barriers, dance choreography, exchanging culture, share the room with another contestant.. learning teamwork but at the same time shine during pre-judging and at all media opportunities, and all that qualities eventually contributes to their final marks.

Some good pointers on delegation from Angie, what ex GM told me, if it's wrong, never do it for her, but correct her, show her and let her revise and learn from her mistakes. It all boils down to communication. In my humble opinion, why run alone when you have a team, what are you trying to prove? That only you can do it and success is all yours? For recognition, promotion? A project is successful because you have a team to support you, it is everybody's effort, and that's why we call it TEAM – Together Everybody Achieve More. Burden is shared, and everyone gets to go home earlier.. yahoo! I love my Techmex TEAM, YOU are the best, Carrie, May, Amy, Mich, YY, Mama, Brother and AK.

In Chun Toi's article (please revisit Wake Up), he puts it clearly that nobody work in isolation these days, it is all about TEAMWORK. "Starting as early as Tomorrow, if you're a leader, see how can you lead your team better and if you are a subordinate, find better ways to support your boss." And I totally agree.

Zhuge Liang in Red Cliff

John Woo's Red Cliff is all about Teamwork and the outnumbered good guys scheming to defeat a vastly larger force. I greatly admire Zhuge Liang for his wisdom and his diplomatic strategies leading a force of 50,000 to defeat an army of nearly 1mil. Cool man! This genius came out with his Bagua strategy to form a maze to trapped the enemies, how clever and how he steals arrows from the enemy. If you work with a small team, you too can break through the hurdles and win the battle.

Teams work better - when they work together!
